Do I need a merchant bank account?
No. If the account options you have chosen allow for credit card transactions, these will be processed via our merchant account.
What payment options will my customers have?
You may choose to offer your customers the choice of paying via:
- either Internet Bank Transfer or Credit Card
- Internet Bank Transfer only
- Credit Card only.
You may login to your account at anytime and request to be paid out your balance and we will transfer your balance to the bank account you have registered with us. There is a R7.46 fee (ex VAT) per payout.
Common Questions from Merchants:
Do my customers need to register with WebCash?
No. We need your customers email address to send them a receipt but they don't need to create an account with us.
I am not based in South Africa - can I use your service?
WebCash is designed for online merchants with South African bank accounts who wish to sell to the South African market. So unless you have a South African bank account, this service is unfortunately not for you.
Will I be able to receive payments from overseas buyers?
Yes - if the buyer chooses to pay by credit card.
Common Questions from Buyers:
Absolutely. Our payment gateway uses an encrypted Secure Socket Layer. If you choose to pay by Internet Transfer, you log into your bank's online portal in the usual way, protected by all their security.
Can I pay if I don't bank with one of the five banks you support?
You will not be able to pay by Internet Bank Transfer and will have to pay by credit card (assuming the merchant has enable this option for their account).
How come my internet transfer payment clears so quickly?
WebCash holds accounts with ABSA, FNB, Nedbank, Standard Bank and Investec. When you pay into our account held at the same bank as your bank, we are able to check that the payment has gone through in a matter of seconds since it is an internal transfer.
